Jewish Wedding Timeline: What to Plan & When

Planning a Jewish wedding involves a few extra moving pieces — a ketubah, a chuppah, sometimes a badeken, often a tisch. Here's a realistic month-by-month timeline to keep everything on track.

9–12 Months Before

Start with the big, hard-to-change decisions: your date and your venue. If you want to avoid a Shabbat or major holiday conflict, check the Hebrew calendar early — some dates that look wide open on a regular calendar are actually unavailable for a traditional ceremony. This is also the time to book your rabbi or officiant, since well-regarded ones get reserved far in advance.

It's also worth starting conversations with both families now about which traditions matter most to you — denominational differences can shape a lot of downstream decisions, from the ceremony structure to the reception style.

6–8 Months Before

This is prime vendor-booking season: photographer, caterer, band or DJ, and florist. If you're keeping a kosher kitchen, confirm your caterer's certification early, since not every caterer works with every kashrut standard. Order or commission your ketubah around this time too — many couples choose a text and artist together, and custom pieces can take a few months to complete.

3–4 Months Before

Finalize your chuppah — whether you're renting one, building one, or using a family tallit as the canopy. Send invitations, and if you're planning a tisch or badeken, loop in whoever's helping coordinate those moments so nothing gets rushed on the day itself.

1–2 Months Before

Confirm final headcounts with your caterer, finalize your ketubah signing plan (who signs, who witnesses, and when), and do a final walkthrough of the ceremony order with your officiant. This is also a good time to confirm any specific requests — glass-breaking, chair-lifting for the hora, or anything else you want built into the reception flow.

The Week Of

Confirm delivery times with every vendor, prep your ketubah signing space, and try to leave real breathing room in your schedule. Most couples find the week itself moves faster than expected — a loose schedule with buffer time tends to hold up better than a tightly packed one.
