Make Your Personal Ad Pop
With everyone getting on the online dating train these days, it's a problem to find a profile that seems original. That little paragraph where they ask you to describe yourself can sometimes feel like they want you to write your college thesis. The pressure is on. Here are a few helpful hints on how to stand out from the crowd:
Start with your name, age and the city you live in. This will break the ice. When writing this you might feel as though the first sentence has to be super creative and insightful, but actually the reader just wants to know the basics about you. Leave your adventures in Tibet for the first date.
Put into writing three positive adjectives that describe you. Try to use creative words without sounding pretentious. For instance, instead of describing yo urself as a good listener you could say perceptive. An alternative for using intelligent would be using the word clever instead. After each adjective write a sentence giving the reader proof that you possess this character trait. For example: "I am very creative. I won a couple of awards back in high school for my artistic ability."
Now write about two to three past times or hobbies that you enjoy.. Find one that sounds very exciting; even if you have only done it once in your life; but not if you aren't willing to do it another time. Skiing down the highest mountain in Utah and scuba diving in the coral reefs of South America are good illustrations. The other hobby you list will be neutral such as fishing, or blogging. If you have anything impressive to pull out of your portfolio like volunteering on the Democratic presidential Campaign don't leave it out. It will give the reader a greater than generic sense of who you are.
Remember that they just want a paragraph from you,=2 0not the story of your life. Besides most people won't even read that far into it. You should come off to the reader as appealing and fascinating. After you have caught ones attention, you can share more about yourself over a drink. Cheers!
